KELLY AREVIAN
Native to Cincinnati, Ohio, Kelly grew up with traditional values that have shaped and defined who she is as an individual and as a parent.  "First and foremost, I am a mom..., " Kelly commented to me as we chatted at our recent run-in at the YMCA.  Raising three boys, she and her husband moved to Scituate six years ago having lived previously in Maine, Boston, and Washington DC.  As a former High School English Teacher, Kelly brings to us a passion for education and the unique perspective of being a coach and a mentor.  While  she was teaching, Kelly explained that one of her best experiences was working with students at the Don Bosco Technical High School where she was able to meet the needs of an under served population.  Kelly remains active in education as a tutor and with the public school system as a connected parent.  Recognized for being dependable, Kelly was asked to take part in the Coastal Holiday House Tour benefiting the Scituate elementary schools.  In addition to being involved in her community, Kelly also derives positive energy from exercise, being outdoors and spending time with friends and family.

When I asked Kelly how she felt about joining our group, she thoughtfully replied, "12 Women Care is another chance for me to look beyond the walls of my home, my immediate family and daily routine, to think about what is truly important to me and how I can make a greater impact; not just on my friends and family, but on a community I have slowly come to call my own.  I also look at this group as a way for me to model to my children one of my most esteemed rules in life: service and giving.  I love Shel Silverstein's novella, The Giving Tree, because it so aptly illustrates selfless love of another.  I want my children to learn that giving of oneself and loving others is a priceless gift.   You can tell a child all about a subject, but seeing it put in action is a much stronger lesson.  As my children grow and this group grows in number and deed, I will show them how to be giving individuals.  This is one of the best lessons I will ever have taught!"
